Called Remington today
Called Remington today about my Rem 597 in 17 HMR...I told them $200 in coupons didn't impress me. They told me they would pay my cost to return the rifle, that they would rebarrel the rifle to 22 Mag and return to me free of charge. Anyone have this done already? How did you like the results?

I have several range customers that have taken the $200 and I'm pretty sure any one of them would have been happier with the rebarreling. Since it is factory work, it should still carry enough guarantee to assure they get it right. I would consider the 22 WinMag autoloader a better deal than the $200 voucher, and would actually not be too upset with Remington either since they are trying to go the extra mile for you. Having said that, it isn't my gun and I'm not the one put out, so Follow your own nose on how to react. 0 -
I think I would take them up on the 22 mag rebarrel, at least you still have your gun. 0 -
The 597 in 22mag is a nice rifle. I've got one that I've had since the mag first came out. Good accuracy (have a 4X scope on it) and never a jam or other problem. I'd take them up on the offer to rebarrel. 0 -

Im leavin mine in 17. It shoots good and functions when its clean. I quit usin all the Remington ammo and use Hornady. I thought the Rem ammo was the biggest prob. Didnt Win. have a recall many years ago on sumthin and now the ones that are left are worth lots. 0
