AR15 upper interchangeability?

Someone is selling a Colt M16 SPR .22LR in the local want ads. I googled the rifle and looked at some detailed pics. The lowers look identical to 5.56 lowers. I searched but cannot find if a 5.56 upper will work on this lower. Common sense tells me there must be a difference but from the pics the lowers look the same. The S&W .22's have different size take down pins to prevent changing to a 5.56 upper. Does anyone have one of these rifles that can answer this for me? Thanks

    The only thing that the .22's have in common with centerfire AR's is appearance; nothing else is the same.

    The .22s look authentic, but you can NOT covert one of the Colt (actually German Umarex manufactured, Colt licensed) .22 guns into 5.56x45 (.223).

    Thanks guys I appreciate it. I was tempted to buy one just to look inside but $400 is a bit expensive soley to satisfy my curiosity. Thanks again. [8D]
