choke tubes
A friend has asked me whether the choke tubes for the new line of Stoeger Condors are interchangeable with any other manufacturer's tubes. Told him I don't know, but maybe you fellers would.
TIA for any answers.

Besides Beretta/Benelli, are there other manufacturers that put the threads on the front of their tubes? I've got an import shotgun with front threads, and don't really want to spend a lot of money on choke tubes that won't fit. Help would be appreciated. Thanks. 0 -
that can't be done. Many people don't understand what choke really is. It is not a standard measurement. Choke is a measure of constriction. In numbers it is the difference in the bore diameter and the muzzle diameter. The greater the difference , the tighter the choke. No difference = cylinder. There are standards for the constriction and choke marking but off the top of my head I forget. Each manufactures may and likely do have different bore sizes. Also many guns today are backbored which means the bore is larger than what used to be called normal. Additionally bores are not always as consistent. The only way to measure a given choke is with a bore/barrel gauge, a pretty expensive tool. Practically speaking you should test the gun to see how it patterns. 0 -
LIKE THE ABOVE POSTER SAID IT DEPENDS ON THE 'CONSRICTION' IN EACH BARREL. I'VE SEEN 12 GA. BARRELS WITH AN INTERNAL DIAM. OF .722" (NOMINAL IS .729") UP TO .740". AND THAT'S NOT EVEN GETTING INTO 'BACK BORED' BARRELS. 0 -
While there is no exact answer, you may wish to go to Carlson Chokes or Briley Choke on the net. They will list their ID for each type. This should give you a good idea of the approx. dia.

Chokes were originally designed to meet a performance standard. Such as percentage of pellets within a specific diameter circle at a specific distance. The amount of constriction was applied to the barrel to meet these standards. So actual measurements varied within the gun making world, and chokes varied in style , not always a taper constriction.
Some barrels were tapered full length, some barrels provided for expansion then constriction of the tube. Lot of variables , Experimenting going on even today to achieve that , "perfect pattern".0
