SIG 556 Pistol Grip

I've got a SIG 556, from the factory it comes with a M249 pistol grip and an ambidextrious safety. I've found with the oversized (compared to an M4) pistol grip and the ambi-safety it makes reflexive fire difficult (the safety gets in the way of my hand on the firing side). Can I swap the M249 pistol grip for a standard M4 style pistol grip or should I just have the ambi-safety shaved off?

  I think most of the AR handles are modular, and can be traded out. There are sites that specialize in selling aftermarket equipment for AR's, they would be able to answer specific questions about the Sig and the compatability of the parts they are selling.
