While its good practice for safety and other reasons, so far as I know, caliber marking on the barrel has never been a requirement for sale of a gun.

I've got multiple guns with no caliber marking on the barrel; all bought legally through FFL transfer.

In fact, since the RECEIVER is what is legally considered the gun, its perfectly fine to buy and sell "guns" with NO BARREL AT ALL!

Somehow this caliber requirement, while not explicitly stated for Title One (unrestricted) firearms, seems to be oddly enforced for NFA firearms.

For instance, if you manufacture AR 15 receivers, you can put "multi" on the receiver.

If you make one of those receivers into an SBR, you must engrave a caliber...or a host of calibers, that you wish to operate that firearm in.

    Makes no sense, I know.
