pre 64 model 70 winchester 270 weatherby
I've looked everywhere for info on this rifle. My father bought it in 1966, the s/n is 16037. The barrel is stamped with 270 weatherby mag over 270 WCF. I have heard that the factory stamped some guns like this. Any idea as to the value or rarity of this gun? The rifle is in excellent condition, almost too pretty to shoot. It has beautiful wood and blueing but kicks like a mule.

govnuh,
Hello, and welcome to the forums here on Gunbroker.com.
Nope, not in the day of the Pre-64 Model 70. Roy Weatherby's cartridges were proprietary to his rifles. That rifle has had work done to it most likely.

The factory did not stamp (or make) rifles like that.
In early days Weatherby and no doubt independent gunsmiths would rechamber a .270 Win to .270 Weatherby.
At Proofhouse.com, Model 70 no 16037 is listed as made in 1938 and Weatherby did not go into business until 1945.0
