stupid question for the board
just because im bored.
with brass cased berdan primed ammo, if you were willing to put the time into it is it possible to convert it over to take boxer primers? wouldnt it just take having the correct size bits and being able to have the drill bit perfectly centered over the case head to drill the flash hole and then the primer pocket? or is the brass just to thin or something else keeping this from being possible?
this isnt something im planning on doing just something ive been wondering about a bit lately.
there fixed it

My understanding is the primer sizes are slightly different. If you could just hog out the anvil in a Berdan primed case and stuff a Boxer primer it wouldn't be a big deal. But, as I understand it, since the primer sizes are slightly different it makes it not feasible.
Unless, of course, you know the primer size you want to use will fit and work.[:D]0 -

nope. only rocks are in my head.0 -
Been there, done that, don't recommend it, for survival situations only.
Only would consider it on obsolete cartriges where boxer brass in unobtainable. Even then I would try to buy Berdan primers first.
Lots of custom brass makers around now if you need it. They wern't around years ago or at least unheard of before Gore's invention.0 -
Takes more than boring to right size, and getting rid of the Berdan anvil. The Boxer primer was designed to flash its vortex of fire thru a center hole. Yes, you could theoretically make that center hole, but then what are you to do with the other two holes? With that many holes and open surface area, I am sure it would create a lot of back pressure, and blown primers are no fun. So no, in a nutshell it is not possible.

My understanding is that YES, is many cases this is possible.
BUT, its quite labor-intensive, and probably not worth the effort, unless you're talking about some pretty scarce brass.0
