    Krazyboutguns,

First 55's is what the twist in that rifle handles best. 1-12" twist may or may not handle 60 gr. bullets as they are too long. Stability with a given twist actually depends more on length than weight.

The Brownells bedliner, without looking it up, sounds like a steel bedding block that the action is mounted on within the stock. A lot of the newer rifles have an aluminum bedding block. I couldn't tell you which one may be more accurate. I only know the aluminum is lighter. And the ones I have, have made a difference for the better regarding accuracy.

    Edit:

One in twelve twist will probably handle up to 60, maybe 62 grain bullets. I'm not certain why manufacturers don't put a faster twist on the 22-250s, seems a natural with the 80 grains and above bullets.

I couldn't agree more. I shoot with guys up north who've made the swap to 1-8" twist barrels and say the difference is night and day ranging out 600-800 yds. They will do 1k too but the bullets in .224" are still a little weak in the BC department.

I have a Savage 12 BVSS in 300 WSM. Just a bit of a guess, but I'd say the previous owner glass bedded the action using Brownell's Acraglass and also figured out a way (probably by hogging out the buttstock and forend a bit) to lay down steel or lead to increase weight and reduce recoil. Bit of a waste (the weight) on a 22-250. I put some weight and mercury recoil reducers in my 12, I think it weighs about 20 lbs total and has 308 recoil without the additional muzzle blast a brake would have caused.
