Winchester 97 Riot Shotgun
I have a Winchester 97 riot shotgun serial # 647xxx that seems to have been manufactured around 1918. It is a takedown model with matching serial numbers. The barrel is marked CYL. Overall in very good shape. My question is that takedown model riots appear to have been made at a later date. Is that correct?

Hello,
Your Model 1897 was actually manufactured in early 1917. With a complete serial number, I can provide you with the exact date your Riot Gun was serialized.
In answer to your question, the military (ordnance marked) Model 1897 Riot Guns were solid frames up to just before WW II, and then were Take Downs during WW II. I have found solid frame Riot Guns as late as serial number 866475 (1931). The commercial Riot Guns were offered in Take Down as early as 1910 (the lowest serial number I have verified thus far is 500995).0 -
