DOM on a Remington Model 760 GameMaster

    Remington long guns made between the early 20's and early 70's, usually have a date code on left side of the barrel,( above the wood line),just forward of the receiver. It usually a two or three letter code. Go to the following link to decipher the code.

    I don't think the date from that website is the correct date of manufacture for the 760. The letters on the barrel are "LZ" which dated to February, 1931 on the site you provided. From all that I've read, the 760 GameMaster wasn't introduced until 1952. Doing a little more research, I found that the serial number is dated between 1975-1978, so, my guess is it was probably manufactured in last 1975 or early 1976.

    Remington Owners,

    Remington Year of Manufacture Codes maybe found on the barrel of your Remington rifle [or shotgun] on the left side, just forward of the receiver; the first letter of the Code is the month of manufacture, followed by one or two letters which are the year of manufacture. For shotguns with removeable barrels, the code will be valid for the manufacture of the barrel; maybe for the receiver, as barrels do get switched around.

    According to the "Blue Book of Gun Values", the coding continues as follows:

    Month Codes: [first letter]
    B - L - A - C - K - P - O - W - D - E - R - X
    1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9 - 10 - 11 - 12

    * the years 1943 though 1953 had double letters: ie, MM = 1943

    As maybe seen, the year code letters duplicate; some knowledge of when the model was introduced should resolve the actual year of manufacture.

    According to my calculations, your rifle was mfg'd. in Feb. of 1975.. The barrel code "Z" shows up more than once....
