smith and wesson model 36

I got this gun passed down to me from family and i was wondering if yall could help me out on the value of this gun. Its the first j frame 5 shot revolver that smith and Wesson came out with as far as i understand. It got the wooden handle and its black. Its not in the best condition but what can you expect its a old gun. If someone could give me a base price to ment condition price i would greatly appreciate it, and if ya got any info on the revolver i would be glad to hear about it.

    The first few numbers of the serial and pictures would be a great help. What you are asking is like " I have a '56 FORD in fair condition, what's it worth"

    Hey buddy lol i know what ya mean. Im working on getting some pics up of the weapon. So if you could take a look later when you get the chance i would appreciate it. I should have the pics up in a few minutes.

    There are a zillion of these out there.

    Exact value will depend on condition and year of manufacture, but for a beat up one, figure a ballpark of $300 or so. (Pictures are necessary for a better estimate).

    I definitely wouldn't sell it if I were you.

    Model 36 makes a great carry gun, or personal protection gun for a car glovebox, desk drawer, etc.

    I believe this post of yours is primarily interested in the value.

    Gotta go with the dollar estimate above. Remember: unless you don't want a gun for *whatever*, then keep it, because it will give you years of good service, and selling it to flip it for a newer, cleaner handgun will not be cost effective. What I mean is, the money saved by refraining from selling it (assuming you want a handgun in the first place), will be able to allow you to purchase a goodly amount of target ammo to become proficient.

    If no great interest, dump the gun and, with the money you get for it, take the Missus out to an excellent restraunt and a show.

    The October, 2010 issue of THE AMERICAN RIFLEMAN gives the history of the model 36 on page 136. It places a value of $460 on a 98% revolver manufactured in 1978. As an aside, my wife has carried her Chief's Special since 1982 and loves it. I did however install a Wolf spring kit and replaced the original grips with Pachmayrs. [:D] Ed

    Yeah i was planning on sailing it to get me a new hand gun. Im gonna take your advice and hold on to her. The gun is just got to much family history and its not worth gettin red of it. Thanks for responding brother.
