When you delete a reply on a thread does the post count go back down by one or does it stay the same?
The reason I am asking is that recently there are a few posters that think they are Gods gift to comedy and find it necessary to make a stupid reply to a thread (Not nameing names, yet). This causes the thread to be locked prematurely. When a thread gets 10 responses the thread is locked even though some of the responses were stupid, or had nothing to do with the original topic.
If my question makes sense? I hope that when you see a reply that has nothing to do with the original topic that you will delete it and that the post count will reflect that also.
There is plenty of room for that kind of junk on the General Discussion board. Thanks

ATE is tightly run. Either:
1. Moderators didn't catch the 'offense', or..
2. Viewed the post, and didn't find any offense. Joe
EDIT:
I forgot to mention: if you are still in need to banter about a particular subject, and the ten-reply limit has been reached, you are allowed to open a new string stating the specifics of what you want covered. Best again, Joe0 -
When I delete an individual post in the topic string, it does indeed decrement the total post count.
That stated, I typically do not delete a posted reply unless it violates the forum rules, or I see an unintentional duplicate post.0 -
garanch,
I'm sure that the 3 of us follow the Captain's lead regarding deletions and modifications (editing) of posts or topics. But the difficulty lies in the fact that we probably don't read each and every thread every time we log on. The cure for this is to ask the members to e-mail us when they spot a potential problem or violation. We can review the thread and make adjustments if necessary.
Other than that, we encourage the members to read the Posting Guidelines when we spot a problem. Let us know which threads have a problem in particular and we will review them.

Also good to remember that a "second response" from the same person can best be handled as an edit, thus preserving a slot for someone else. 0
