Encore barrel in .454
Anyone know where I could get or have made a .454 casull rifle barrel for a Thompson Encore. The .460 barrel will not work because they aren't legal to deer hutn with here in Indiana.
I would love to have a bolt action gun in this caliber but it would have to be made. But I hunt a lot with a single shot so getting a barrel and rifle stck for my Encore will work also.
Thanks

You folks have the "cartridges no longer than" such & such hunting season, correct?
Match Grade Machine in UT can make one for you. Even though not in stock they may have one around - they tend to not have all their inventory on line. Cost is usually about $350.00 or so. I have a few of their barrels and they are top quality.

I suppose another possibility is to have a 45 Colt Encore chamber reamed to 454 length - don't know if such a thing exists, but it would be easy. E A Brown (EABCO) may carry 454 also.0 -

Yes that is correct. Ruger makes a #1 in .460 but the case on the .460 is to long. I can't get by with using the .454 in the .460 according to DNR.
I also have a Ruger revolver in .454 I am really quite fond of.
Thanks for the information.
Edit: I sent am e-mail and am waitng for a reply0 -
If you can find a barrel in 45 Colt, get a competent gunsmit to run a chamber reamer in it and you're good to go....

The rate of twist may be a problem. I have a .357 Maximum barrel
that is really terrible with .38 specials.0 -
SSK Industries in Ohio will make you one........ 0 -
