Michem unsented gel, been using it for years and I do need good stuff.

The sent free brands from the senct control companies work also, not a s effective as the mitchem but they have no oder where the mitchem does have a base oder when applying.

Staying downwind is the only way. It is my opinion that sent blocking clothing and other sent eliminators or maskers are useless. They can cut down on some body oder but there is one thing that cannot be eliminated. Your breath. We have to breath. Even if you set up some kind of reverse gas mask type system, you are still going to give off a sent.

First of all, antiperspirants can only work in a limited number of ways:

    a. They can mask your scent with a perfumed scent (ie, this is a "deodorant"). Most of these are no good for hunting, though apparently there are pine-scented deodorants, that might be OK.

    b. They can clog up your pores to prevent sweat from leaking out. This will work, to some extent, but it also can cause all sorts of problems in susceptible individuals. You can experiment with different products to see which (if any) work for you.

    c. They can kill bacteria that grow in sweat and cause body odor. . .though this effect is fairly transient.

Apart from staying downwind, your best bet is to try and not break a sweat (dress in layers and use temperature-appropriate clothing), try to use moisture-wicking or antiperspirant clothing to help prevent bacterial growth and BO, change clothes if necessary, and try to avoid eating foods that help promote body odors (eg things with garlic, spices, etc).

Some years ago I used some gum that was designed to eliminate mouth odor specifically for hunters.... If I can find the name I'll post it...Might not even be available anymore....

Big tire is correct. Ever wonder why dogs love to stick their face in the wind from the back of your truck and yet they hate it when you blow in their face. Well to every dog on earth EVERY human has the most rotten breath that they could imagine. Their sense of smell is 1000 X better that ours. IE Bloodhounds. Deer, elk, bear and the like have similar sense of smell.

In addition to the above advice (wind direction most important)

You have to look at this in another light:

Smell that has not been allowed to exist at all is a darn sight better than trying to eliminate smell that has occured, and you have to do a catch-up via the deodorant scenario. Here's what I mean...

..Let's start from inside the smell generator, which is your own body.

Refrain from carbs, meats, alcohol and caffeine/nicotine (if you can) for two days prior to going afield. Essentially establish a temporary vegetarian lifestyle is what I'm say'n. You are purging your body of all the smelly stuff.

Wash all your clothes (jacket and hat included) in the normal fashion, then wash them again without any soap product of any kind, then air-dry..preferably out doors. Hanging them on the back deck works for me.

    Happy Trails! Joe

Never paid any attention to the deer smell you theory. Hunt with muzelloader from ground blind and never had a problem getting deer as close as 10 feet away. Deer today are used to people unless you are hunting in the middle of the forrest. Got nice 10 pointer lase year and he never saw or smelled me.
