UNK GUN.. Need Guru Help
Im a Police Officer in Detroit and we recovered this weapon off an individual. There magazine is secured into the weapon and it appears to be top feed only. It appears to have a firing pin, but the barrell looks completely smooth. Most of the identifing marks are gone but it does have a five digit serial number 17821. If anyone can give me some ideas, it gives me the feeling of a starter pistol, but any help will help me with my case. Thanks ahead

You got there a Model 1911 Steyr-Hahn. It is a 9mm used by some European countries from 1910 to about 1938, and inTo WW2. It is a REAL gun. Had a rifled barrel when new. Bob
PS.. If this helps you please send me one "get out of jail card" [:D]0 -
Babun, nailed it. GOOGLE, Steyr Hahn bunch of links with much info and photos will show up.
The Steyr Hahn was chambered for 2 different 9mm cartridges. The 9mm Steyr and the 9mm Luger. The original 9mm Steyr ammo is very uncommon nowadays and hard to come by. If your pistol is chambered for this older 9mm Steyr cartridge it might not be functional with the more commonly found 9mm ammo that is available nowadays.0 -
colearmoryllc,
The bore on that gun may be rifled, even though it looks smooth. It may be heavily leaded. A number of gun owners have been fooled into thinking that they had a bad barrel, or a smoothbore barrel, by a heavily-leaded barrel.0 -
Agree with the others, and you are correct, it loads thru the top via stripper clips. Looks like it was nickel plated at some juncture in time which makes me think it was one of the bring back guns that someone decided to spruce up since they could not locate ammo. In other words, I bet it was a vet bring-back (duffel bag messenger!) that will not show up on hot lists you may have. WAG is a Romanian issue gun since there appears to be no large crest on it. 0 -
What was the guy doing when the gun was "recovered"?
You have to have some real balls to commit a crime with a Steyr-Hahn.

Dean...I hear Ya'! I have a 1912 dated Romanian and the trigger pull is unmeasurable....The scale bottoms out at 25 pounds and I am guessing the actual pull is around 35lbs! I enjoy handing it to friends at the range and watching them try to find the safety after the first attempt. This is normally followed by the statement "where the hell is the safety on this thing!". About as robust a weapon as I own though. When the mag is empty, just flip it around and bash heads; it could never be any the worse for wear! 0 -
Long story short, guy was threatening, some people with the gun in his hand. Witnessess said he never pointed it at them, he says It wasn't a real gun. Our investigator never saw one like it, and because the magazine looked
Pin, thought it wasn't real either. Thanks guys for the quick response
can't wait to tell the investigator the truth. You guys are the real gurus.
