Mosin Nagant 91/30
Recently bought one at a gun show. Ex. condition metal and wood. No Russian markings on receiver or barrel. Muzzle end of barrel marked M91 7.62R FINLAND (self explanatory) on underside, and CAI ST.A VT above. Barrel has SA mark on top with no date or any other marks. Serial # is marked on hex receiver. Can you give me any historical info regarding these markings?

Who makes a good, inexpensive trigger for the Mosin Nagant 91/30. The only trigger company I can think of is Timney. 0 -

Finland, for the M39. Huber makes an overpriced trigger that isn't hard to duplicate.0 -

Nobody.
The only aftermarket trigger I'm aware of is the Huber "anti-friction" trigger, and its not cheap.
That said, SOME Mosins come with quite good triggers. I got one out of the box that has about a 5 lb trigger break which is surprisingly crisp. But a lot of them have 8-9 lb breaks that feel like you're dragging a bag of bricks up a gravel-covered hill.
There are some fairly simple things you can do to improve Mosin triggers. If you've ever tried taking one apart, the mechanism itself is about as simple as you're going to see.
Apart from the usual polishing of engagement surfaces to smooth up the pull, one trick people do is to take out the screw holding down the trigger leaf spring, then shim it (say with a piece of aluminum taken from a beverage can). This decreases sear pressure on the trigger and both shortens and lightens the pull. Here's a video:

Its an old trick. . .the Finns were doing this to Mosin rifles 70 years ago, and apparently you can find these sorts of shims in some of the Mosin "sniper" rifles. You have to be careful if you do this. . .too much of a shim and the bolt won't be retained into the gun action, and can fall out when cycling!
Other tricks involve removing, slightly bending, then replacing the leaf spring or CAREFULLY grinding away some metal to get the same effect.

Make sure that if you try any of these tricks that you proceed a LITTLE at a time, and that after testing the trigger, you bump test the gun a few times (by banging the butt onto a padded surface) to make sure its drop safe.0
