Advice on Semi Auto Grouse Shotgun
Hi Experts,
I'm finally mostly retired and living at my farm in Pa. (yay!). I am finishing off getting my final battery of firearms to last me until my demise, got rifles and revolvers already so am all set there.
My favorite upland pursuit is grouse hunting, it's great here and wonder what semi-auto you all think is light and points well. I want good quality for around 1K and it must be a 12 ga. I know 20's are sweet but like the extra oomph a 12 gives me in heavy brush. I grew up with a Remington 1100 but that thing weighed a ton! I'm about 5"8" and am not a big guy. I see all kinds of semi's on gunbroker but would like any opinion on what you pro's like.
Any and all advice is always appreciated!

Franchi made/makes a very light 20ga auto loader... I think the same model is available in 12ga. 0 -
I have one of the Franchi 12 gauge autos and it is light and I've used it on several pheasant hunts. However, I'd say look at the Beretta 391 or earlier versions such as the 302 if you don't mind buying a used one. They're light, reliable, and balance nicely for me. You'll like the 20 gauge versions even better from a handling perspective and I doubt the grouse will notice the difference. 0 -
torquimata,
I too, like to grouse hunt in the Adirondacks. I have an 870 Express Turkey gun, with a 21 inch barrel, and Rem Choke tubes that I USED to use. Back in 2002, I got myself a Franchi 48AL, in 28 gauge. I will never go back to a 12 for Grouse, quail, pheasant, or woodcock. This is a natural pointer for me, and it feels like it is about 4 1/2 pounds. I know they make it in 20, and 12 gauge too.

Beretta Al 391 [;)] 0 -
Beretta 391 is my goose, duck and upland gun. Light, low recoil and the stock is ajustable to a limited degree. 0 -
I have more than one grouse gun but I mostly use a Franchi veloce. At a hair over five pounds its nice to carry. Ken 0 -
I have a Benelli Ultralight and will keep it forever. However, if you're at all shy about recoil I'd say listen to the Beretta guys. 0 -
No contest.
