Arisaka type 99 Nagoya 0 series?

Is the series stamp always placed to the left of the serial number?

I have a type 99 from the Nagoya arsenal that I think may be a 0 series...

    SWEET T-99! Yes, Nagoya did make a "No Series" T-99 Carbine. Another thing that you will notice is the larger than usual sling swivel on the butt end. Only the no series had it. The No Series was intended as a cavalry rifle, hence the larger swivel. Congrats on a nice rifle!

    My grandfather must have either had good taste or just got lucky when he plucked this one out of a barrel on the USS Pensacola, sometime in 1945.

    He always told the story of walking off the ship and seeing barrels full of "jap" rifles for the Sailors to take home. He said he regretted not taking one... then one day we were cleaning out his garage and I found this (with a bayonet) in a cabinet in the garage.

    Unfortunately the mum is ground, the monopod is missing, and the bolt doesn't match (it is nice and early, headspaces fine, and matches in finish)

    Any idea as to the approximate value? (i'm guessing $250)

    not that this rifle would EVER be sold, i'm just curious

    I used to collect Arisaka's. Had about 25 of them at one time. ALL of them, while similar looking to the untrained eye, had differences that only a collector would know to look for.
    (And believe me. Trying to explain them to a house guest is a VERY good way to insure they will NEVER COME BACK)[:D]
    But I've been out of it for several years. And the market has changed w/the economy. So I'm really not current on the values. This is why I suggest watching the auctions here to see what a similar rifle sells for. I can tell you that being the 1st Series made, and with the larger swivel, your rifle does have added value over a similar condition rifle of another series. Mainly because it's the ONLY Series that had that swivel.
