Beretta or Remington Semi-Auto Shotgun?
I'm asking for the community's advice before purchasing a semi-automatic shotgun. My max price is around $800, so I'm looking for the best value. I've been looking at the Beretta ES100 and Remington 11-87. Any feedback or recommendations would be appreciated.

My first reaction to your question was to save your money
and buy a Benelli, there is just something wonderful about
the feel, fit and finish that is placed on a Benelli that makes
them the standard that all other autoloaders are judged by,
plus you can also find sale prices foe the M-2 that are not
off of the price your considering.
In saying this I will admit that the shotgun I shoot the most
is a 1970 production 28ga Remington 1100 Skeet. With this
1100 I shoot around 300 to 400 rounds per month and it never
once given me a ftf or fte.
So you can't go wrong with a remington, but you could do better
with a Benelli.0 -
I have had both the 1187 and several Beretta, and since I am a Beretta fan, I really would suggest the Beretta line. The Beretta 390 series can be had brand new for about $600 in most places. Its a rugged, simple and Beretta's entry level shotgun, an excellent choice for the money. The 391 Urika series shotguns are a lot nicer, but still wont break the bank. Noth are very easy to maintain and go bang every time. Great guns! There's my two cents. Good luck on your purchase. 0 -
+1 for Beretta 391 or any of their older models for that matter if you want to keep the price down. I have 11-87s and Benelli as well but the Berettas are my go to shotguns when I want an auto. They're all good guns and will get the job done. I just find that the Berettas fit well, are light, and are reliable. Only downside is the gas port mechanism gets dirty fairly quickly with a lot of shooting and is a bit more difficult to keep clean than the Benelli. The 11-87 seems "clunkier" to me but I'm sure there are many who prefer it. 0 -
I am also going to give a thumbs up to the Beretta 391 series. I have had one for close to 10 years and it is still agreat shotgun. One thing to watch is the drop on the Beretta. It only fits me if I put the max shim inbetween the stock and the action. So I would check one out before you purchase it.
It would be good to know what you plan on doing with it.0 -

I had an 11-87 and traded it for a 1100, I am happy. Ken 0 -
Well, if you really want to limit yourself to those two, then the Beretta, but I would take a serious look at the Browning Silver, Gold, and the Winchester SX3.

Thank you all for your thoughts. It seems like the Berettas are very well liked. From what I've been hearing from you all, I think I'm going to eliminate the Remingtons from my list. I will however look into some of the Benelli models. I'm also intrigued about the Browning Silver. I've read very little about them. If anyone own's one and has feedback about it, I'd love to hear your opinions. 0 -
Also, someone asked what I planned on doing with the gun. Multi-purpose sums it up. I do some sporting clays, some pheasant hunting, hand thrown clay targets and may even try for a Turkey one of these upcoming seasons. 0 -
i have a beretta 390 i bought used in 1994 for the same multi-purposes, and highly recommend it. 0
