Anyone have a comment on buying a K98 from the above?

I know nothing about WWII collectibles. The ads Mitchell's Mausers run in the NRA mags and other mags make these Mausers look really good. Maybe to good?? Are the prices they are asking about right or high? If you would like to pick up a good quality WWII mauser with the intention of leaving your son something truely special and collectible where would be the best place to go? (I'm one of the crazy one's. I'm 61, my son is 9. The Lord is good!) I'm not a collector, I'm a shooter. But my father was in the U.S. Army Air Force flying bombing missions over Europe during WWII and it only seems appropriate that my son has a WWII rifle or 2 that will commemrate his and all of our heritage. Any thoughts, opinions or ideas are welcome. Thanks TODD 0 -
You might consider searching the archives as their have been a number of previous posts on the Mitchells. 0 -
I'll give that a shot. Thanks. 0 -
If the info I've aquired about the company is correct then you should be aware that their currently available rifles are a reflection of those currently available on the general market. So the offerings of several years back can be very different then those being offered currently. So are you asking about a particular current offering of theirs or an older offering? Some that they put out eight or tens years back looked like they were brand new and I have been sorry that I didn't pick one up. Still back then non reworked rifles in just about as good condition were readily availble for half their price so I'm not all that sorry..... 0 -
extensivly refinished and force matched #'s. no value to collectors, but not bad price for a good looking shooter 0 -
The thread below sums up Mitchell's pretty well, IMO.

Any good, or junk?
Rifles themselves are fine, but they've been cobbled together from parts and/or restored and have no collector value.
They also tend to be overpriced for what they are.
Its a reasonable choice for someone who wants a really nice looking gun for display purposes, for re-enactment, or as a "shooter".
If you want an authentic Mauser to collect, pass.
If you just want a "shooter", pass; there are rifles just as good to shoot costing quite a bit less out there.0 -
Good stuff, thanks. 0
