Big scope ring problems
I just bought a new Ruger Mini 30 Ranch rifle. It comes with a set of factory Ruger rings. I mounted the base part on the rifle and started to lap the rings in. After 30 minutes and only 1/4 of the bottom making contract I cleaned the rings and layed the scope on the bases. The back (shows lapping) is great, the front on both rings shows a .010 gap on the bottom!! A ring problem, right? Or am I missing something.

Yes, get your self a set of Burris Signature rngs. I believe they do make an adaptor for the Ruger mount to convert it to Weaver style.

I am not familiar with those Ruger rings, but after all that lapping , .010" gap is a lot.
can those rings be reversed? Sounds like they are leaning upward. Can you turn them 180 degrees and then see if the gap follows? Bob
I just looked at a set of them and it appears to me it would be very easy to "cock" that ring so it is not level/parallel to the bore. Try loosening them and applying pressure to hold them in the "tilt" you need as you tighten them. If the gap changes, then you got a lousey design. Bob0 -
Check the rifles dovetail cuts themselves, Ruger seems to have a lot of trouble making them correctly. 0 -
HI, Is their a front and rear ring. On the M77 the front ring is a slight bit shorter than the rear. 0 -
He said mini 14... 0 -
Actually Mini 30. 0 -
Hi, I know he said Mini 30. I was questioning if the Mini 30 used the same type of setup as the 77, one ring shorter than the other. If so and you mixed them up. The ring would not be parallel to each other. Throwing everything out when you try and lap them. 0 -

What size is the objective lens on the scope? 0 -
The front objective lens is 25MM. The rings are identical in height. 0
