The firing pin in the link you provided should work just fine. Any Milspec firing pin will work in his AR.

I have fired many thousands of rounds from my AR's with the basic non-titanium firing pins with no problems. His gun must have been used a lot prior to him getting it.

Thanks! I figured it would work I just wanted to check before I had him buy it. I'm going to take it all apart and make sure that's what's wrong with it as I havent inspected the rifle as of yet, I plan on doing that tomorrow. Is there a good walkthrough on how to disassemble the bolt assembly? I dont have my rifle infront of me atm and I've never taken mine apart so I just want to make sure I do it correctly. As for prior use I'm honestly not sure how much it was used before he aqquired it. Thanks for the info though, I appreciate it!

    +1.

Or he was just unlucky enough to get a defective pin.

But any relatively inexpensive AR-15 pin should work.

It a little tough to break a AR firing pin, but it has been done. Hope that is all the problem is.

Go to YOUTUBE and search AR-15. It will give you numerous tutorials on how to clean and assemble your AR. You might want to start with yours if you haven't taken it apart yet. If you have shot it at all it may be needing a little cleaning to.

Nothing on the AR-type rifle is intuitive. I suggest your buddy buy a copy of the inexpensive paperback "The AR-15 Complete Owner's Guide" by Walt Kuleck; it gives complete disassembly, lubrication, & maintenance instructions.

Look at www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNnvgdOywME for changing and cleaning the AR.
