I never knew they chambered one in 7.62x39, especially back as far as 1991.

If you don't get a definite answer, head on over to the rugerforum and the guys there should be able to help.

Is this the model with the "skeleton" style synthetic stock? If so, these were pretty few and far between from what I understand.

Call or email Ruger. They know, not sure if they will tell you.

I believe the Ruger 77 II stainless in 7.62X39mm was a Davidson? edition which came with the black "scalloped, skeleton, boat paddle" as I have read it referred to stock but with wood panels for the grip and forend panels. I saw these rifles in the mid 1990's at gun shows and no where else. From what I remember reading in the Gun Digest, it had a 0.308" barrel and the bolt face was for a 308 Win case head (i.e., 0.473") not the 0.443"? for the 7.62X39mm case head. So there was some wiggle room at the bolt face when you chambered the 7.62X39mm cartridge. Also, they were so-so accurate about the same as the Zastava? mini-mauser which was the other bolt action at that time chambered for the 7.62X39mm.

IIRC The action was of a length inbetween the long and short...I couldn't fit one in a wooden short action stock an it seemed too short for a long action.. Memory fades.. it was about 10 years ago..
