There should be a 2 or 3 letter code on the left side of the barrel just forward of the receiver. If their is, use this link to get the DOM.

No code. just the serial number. I understand there were only 28,000 or so of these made, and I'd very much like to get an idea of when this particular one was born.

You might try contacting Remington either by phone or e-mail. Years ago, I recall that I e-mailed their customer service site on-line, and they did get back to me with a answer.

I can give you an idea. I have 6 or 7 of these rifles. The one with the closest serial number to yours is a .35 Remington #10397 with a date code on the barrel of AU. This translates to March of 1927. Yours is, of course, earlier than that.

Are you sure there is no date code? On my rifles it's located on the right side of the barrel, over the chamber, mixed in with a bunch of proof marks sometimes below the wood line of the stock. Remington was pretty consistent in date marking their barrels so, if it's the origional barrel, I'd be surprised if it wasn't dated.

Also, FWIW; I seem to recall reading somewhere (of course I can't find it now!) that 37,000+ of these rifles were made. I have #27119 with a date code of April, 1937 and they were made for 4 more years after that.

EDIT: In Stuart Otteson's book, The Bolt Action, Volume I, he states that 22,738 of these rifles were "sold" in 20 years after being brought out in 1920. If he is correct and you have #8907 and I have #27,119, it makes me wonder what number they started with.
