Why not use a Weaver base and rings? You can get extended rings so you can move the scope foreward or rearward.

Get a Weaver base for it, and use Weaver type rings. That's what I have on my 44mag. I can move the scope where ever I want it.

    Hey guys,

I'm looking to put a scope on my Marlin 1894 lever gun and I'm having a tough time finding an appropriate scope base for it. The best I've found so far is a rail from XS Sighting Systems, but it's intended for use with a scout-style scope. I'm not really interested in a scout rail. I did buy some Weaver baseless see-through rings but they mount the scope too far forward. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd appreciate any help on this. Thanks!

    You can use this: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=23168/Product/MARLIN_1894_1895_336_308MX_LEVER_RAIL

It's from XS and allows for a conventional scope mounting. You don't need to use a scout scope.

I have an 1894 and used plain old 2 piece Weaver bases with extended Weaver rings to put the scope forward just enough to see properly. Using standard Weaver rings might work better for you since you have the opposite problem. I use a peep rear sight now with a Lyman globe front and found it just as accurate out to 100 yds which was about the limit of the 45 Colt cartridge.

Before you write off a scout scope set up check out the NC Star 2x7 illuminated long eye relief scout scope. Optics have come a long way and these scopes give a quick/clear/precise reticle from 2 to 7x. The gun balances better the scope is out of harms way and is illuminated.I have built 5 scout set ups on mauser 8mm and everyone is well pleased and others are waiting for me to resume conversions.
