Old M'berg 146B resto
Finally getting around to restoring (my first) a old family Mossberg 146B, lots of surface rust and a little more serious pitting in places. Gonna cold blue it but trying to break it down to individual parts first of course. Having trouble with the two screws securing the mag tube to the underside of barrel. Look kinda wimpy so trying to treat them like a wounded baby. been soaking in penetrating oil . Should I hit them with some heat like a blow dryer or maybe propane? Any other tricks? Would be a bummer not to do a thorogh metal prep/blueing cause it wont come apart. Any other overall advice would be welcome too. This rifle was my deceased Dads, the only value, but it hasn't seen light in 50+ yrs. Oh yea, what about seperating the bolt/barrel?

Penetrating oil - Good. Product called KROIL- GREAT! Heat from a blowdryer- or even a soldering iron held to screw for a few seconds, can help break bonding between screw and surface.
Bolt should come out by opening, safety off, press and hold trigger, slide out. This may help with some of the pieces parts: http://www.box54.com/ex146b.jpg0 -
The tube is pretty light metal be carful. I am kicking around the idea of haveing my 46 re-blued. Bolt is simple like 11b6r said. No propane let the oil sit for 24 hours and repeat as needed. 0 -
If you can get your hands on one of the high wattage soldering guns, it might just do the trick. It should let you heat the screw up without spreading too much unwelcome heat elsewhere. Heat the screw up as hot as you can then let it cool down, should be enough expansion to loosen it up.
