Using Wolf ammo in new mini-14
Just bought a new mini-14 and got talked into buying 500 rounds of Wolf Classic 55 grain FMJ. Ammo has green steel case instead of brass. Will burning 500 rounds damage anything. I will only use brass in the future and will toss the Wolf if necessary. Thanks

it will be fine.
Shoot it and buy more.

If you toss the Wolf, toss it my way.
Your Mini-14 will be just fine shooting this stuff. Just be sure to clean the red primer sealant from the bolt face and extractor when you are done.0 -
About the worst that might happen is a sticky round gets an empty stuck in the chamber and the rim rips off.
If that doesn't happen, you're good to go.
I've never had it happen, but have heard others who did.0 -
The only real problem with steel cased ammo is that it can be a bit more "sticky" than brass cased (for a variety of reasons. . .lacquer, poor case sealing when firing, reduced case elasticity).
So that MIGHT lead to failures to extract.
Sticky cases can cause increased wear and tear on your guns extractor and eventually a broken extractor. (Though the savings in ammo cost should exceed the cost of a new extractor).
Sometimes you can get carbon/lacquer buildup in your chamber, and then when you go to fire BRASS cased ammo afterwards you get extraction problems. Solution here is to just brush out your chamber thoroughly after shooting steel cased ammo.0 -
With a good gun like the Ruger mini 14 you should be good to go... 0
