Colt DA 45
I have a Colt DA 45 that was given to me by my father-in-law. It is a US Army Model 1917. It has the numbers 127490 on the butt of the revolver and 278417 in the strap for the cylinder. It also has what looks like a bird with an S2O or an S2C stamped beneath it up on the left side just in front of the hammer. If any one has an idea about this revolver and/or it's value - I would appreciate the feedback. I believe the father-in-law said before he passed away that it was a 45 ACP.
Thank You![?]

It was made in October 1918, just prior to the end of the First World War. Colt made upwards of 151,000 Model 1917's for the U.S. military between 1917 & 1918.
If factory original and in at least very good condition it would have substantial value to a collector.
We need quality photos for positive identification and appraisal.
This link will explain how to post photos in the forum.

Your gun was made in 1918:http://oldguns.net/sn_php/mildateslookup.php
Along with Smith & Wesson, Colt made Model 1917 revolvers in 45 ACP for military use during WWI because Colt could not make enough 1911s to meet military needs. The 1917s were made in 45 ACP and use "half moon clips" to hold 3 rounds, being a rimless case these clips were needed for extraction but not firing.
The 1917 was made on Colt's large "New Service" frame. It's a large, sturdy and reliable revolver worth a fair amount in good condition.0
