Ammo question
Ok, this may sound stupid, but I have never really understood the difference between .38 Special and .38 Special +P. I have had only a limited amount of experience with a .38 Special for starters. I guess I just need to know what the difference between the two is, does +P have to be shot through a "special" type of .38 revolver and can I shoot +P through a .357 revolver?
Thanks!
Thanks!

What is the difference between the new 30 AR ammo & the old 30 rem ammo ? Thanks 0 -
The .38 Special +P is the exact same cartridge as the .38 Special but is loaded with more or hotter powder to obtain higher velocity. 0 -
+P stands for "extra pressure." A .38 Special +P cartridge will generate about 10% more chamber pressure than the standard round. If the powder is properly selected by the factory, this higher pressure will give higher velocity and greater energy than standard.
All name brand .38 Special revolvers for about the past 50 years will safely shoot +P, and some of the older large frame guns. If a Smith & Wesson has a model number stamped inside the cylinder yoke, it was made after 1957 and is approved by the company for +P.
A .357 Magnum revolver will shoot any .38 Special, +P or not.0
