US Springfield Armory 1898 Rifle
A friend is interested in selling a US Springfield Armory Model 1898 rifle. It is engraved with the date of 1903 and the serial number is 462021. I don't know much about rifle's but it looks like it's in good condition, what would the estimated value be, and where is the best place to sell it?

That would be a US Model 1898 .30-40 Krag rifle. It was made in the last year of production, 1903, prior to the introduction of the US Model 1903 rifle. Approximately 330,000 Model 1898 rifles were made from 1898-1903.
Value varies widely based on completeness, originality and condition, including amount of original bluing, stock finish and case colors. Many of those rifles were converted for sporting use. We really need pictures to give an estimate of value. This thread will show you how to post pics:

The value could be anywhere from $ 500.00 for a shooter in workable, but slightly rough shape, to well over $ 1,500.00 if it is a carbine in good to excellent shape.
A number of these have sold on the auction side over the past year. Do a 'Smart Search' of Completed Auctions of 30-40 Krag (need to register on auction side) and you will see what they have sold for, what non-sold rifles have been bid up to, etc.
