FLATGATE SINGLE SIX VALUES
I have the chance to buy a Flatgate Single Six Ruger serial number in the 65xx range. Condition is well above 90% with no dragline on the cylinder, or holster wear and is unconverted to a transfer bar safety. It does have after market grips, however.
Is this gun worth the $400 being asked for it? What year was it made? If I buy it and am able to find original grips for it is it a gun that will go up in value or is it just something to shoot. My biggest reason for wanting it is I had one identical to it when I was a kid but I don't want to buy with my heart and not use my head.

It was made in 1954, the first year of production. If it's truly in 90% condition, it can only go up in value.
The grip frame should be marked "XR3" and the grips would be checkered, black hard rubber.0 -
If it has not been reblued I would buy it. Look at the price of new ones. You will not find a 1st year gun any cheaper or if it is it wont be by much. If you want the gun buy it. If you keep it and enjoy it for a few years and sold it even for $ 200.00 look at the enjoyment of it. When you buy anything else for pleasure (a tv) you dont wonder how much you can sell it for. You buy it to enjoy. 0 -
Most Ruger collectors want a collectable revolver to be in 95 percent or better condition. Figure in the $135. to 150. a pair of original black hard rubber grips cost and you will have over $500. in it. As a Ruger collector that sounds a bit much for the condition to me. 0 -

for me, that's enough to buy it. i've bought everything from guns to coins to lionel trains that i remember from my past. i don't think $400 is a bad price, but i bet you can get it a few bucks cheaper.

I've already talked the seller down from $500 on the gun so I don't think I can get it any cheaper. My main concern was that it was worth the $400 I can get it for now. I am also looking at a 1920 commercial Luger in .30 caliber for $700 that is really nice and it would be a hard choice between the two, especially when Lugers are what I collect and this "wonderful" economy of ours won't let me afford both right now.[:(!] 0
