00 Buck
I have some 00 buck shot and want to know if it's ok to shoot in an old SBS shotgun with a smooth bore modified to full "choke" diameter at the end of the barrel(can't remember which)30" barrel, no choke tube to be clear. I was told by someone that shrouding may occur due to the size of the 00 shot. I certainly don't want to damage the barrel it's a sweet shotgun.
I also have a remington 1187 super mag that has removeable choke tubes. I also need to know if damage may occur to the choke tubes on this shotgun due to the size of the shot.
Thanks!

Unless the sxs is damascus there is no reason lead 00 buck should harm it. 0 -
Got no problem with the Remington and Buckshot. The way the Buckshot shells are loaded there is a lot of space between the pellets. When it goes through the choke it will compress the shot charge, not affecting the choke.
The old double is something else entirely. Depending on age, barrel construction and condition it might be in fact dangerous to shoot anything through it, let alone Buckshot. Take it to a qualified gunsmith for inspection and test firing. We have no way on the net to assure that it's safe to fire with Buckshot, or any other load.0 -

My old SBS I have shot many times and hunted with it but is 2-3/4" only of course but I don't use high brass in it as a precaution.
I was wondering if the barrel taper will create shrouding with the 00 buck.
Perhaps I should just play it safe and use the remington only with the 00 buck.0
