    Hi Aaron,

There are a couple 32 caliber cartridges that the Model 1894 was made in. One would be 32-40, and the other the 32 WS(Winchester Special). Which one is it?

If the serial number is in the 61,000 range, your rifle was made in 1899 sometime, according to the serial number listing Bert has compiled here:

    http://forums.gunbroker.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=245213

In order to give you an accurate evaluation of the rifle, and what it is, we will need to see several pictures, that are in focus, and include the upper tang, both sights, top of the barrel where it meets the reciever(if there are proof marks on either), both sides of the reciever, and the stock, forearm, and buttplate. There is a sticky topic near the top of the experts forum, that describes how to post photo's, and you will need to use a photo hosting URL like Photobucket, or some others to do it.

Without knowing if the gun is un-altered, we cannot give an accurate determination of value. A 50-60% gun that is ALL original, will be worth substantially more than one that has been altered, and will not letter.

    EDIT 1

Assuming the condition you state, but with the possibility of some incorrectness, the value is not above $500.00. That would be a good shooter. you might get luck, and it letter, and then the value would possibly double.

    Hello Aaron,

This is a case where you really need to have the serial number researched by the Cody Firearms Musuem prior to buying it. As Tim pointed out, it was manufactured in the year 1899. Serial number 61,000 was marked as such on April 8th, 1899.

Also of concern is the fact that the 32 W.S. cartridge was not introduced until October of 1901 (more than 2-years later than the serial number on the gun you are asking about).

A 22-inch barrel (and no saddle ring) indicates a "Rifle" versus a Carbine. The shorter than standard barrel and short magazine tube are not "standard", and are also suspect until authenticated by Cody.

Personally, I would be very leery of anything the seller has to say about the gun.

    Thanks folks.

The seller is not in any way a firearms expert. He bought this gun in 1970, and has shot it one time, just to see if it fired. I will see if I can get some pictures. If so, it will be early next week. I will post a new topic at that time.
