To me it appears your pistol is a CZ 24 rather then a CZ 27. The CZ 24 is a earlier Czech Military pistol chambered for the .380 cartridge rather the the .32 the CZ 27 is chambered for. The "J 28" would be the proof date. Many of the CZ 24 are found with wooden grips such as yours. I don't recall seeing any CZ 27's with them though. Here is a photo of a CZ 27,off the net.

As long as it's your property and in your possession, it can be anything you want it to be. As far as I'm concerned given the rounded profile of the slide and wooden grips it's a CZ 24. You might also do a GOOGLE image search they have many photos of both the 24 & 27 in their files, after reviewing them you might be better persuaded it's a 24.

As a .32 cartridge is smaller in diameter than a .380 it will chamber just fine in a pistol chambered for the .380. See if a .380 will chamber.

"27" is last two digits of the year of manufacture, 1927.

jwb267..thanks for the question. To me it looks as if you have a early CZ27 with obvious replacement wood grips (the originals were plastic grips with the CZ logo). Methinks you have the early Ceska variation (I see the word CESKA on the top of the slide...there should be some more like ZBROJOVKA A. S. v PRAZE) with the correct four slant slide grooves. Not many were made and they range in the area of #16000 to #21400 or so. I can't read all your number so you will have to do that. The ones that were accepted into the German army have the Waffenampt E/WaA76 on the trigger guard web and the chamber. Check yours for that mark. If the eagle has a swastika in its talons that is the German mark. Since production started in 1927 the J 28 you mention could be the year but I rather imagine that it is some sort of unit mark. These pistols were everywhere including Czech police to SS units. Anyway, hope this helps[^]

yes sir, that is exactly what is on top of the slide.
    the ser # is 69326
the mark between the j and the 28 is just to hard to make out, even with a magnifing glass

wow! i took the gun to two gunsmiths and got two different answers[:(]
i am going to go with the one that said it was a 380, because of the different shells he had to offer
so i am going to put it in a gun vise with a string and fire it.
if i dont come back say something nice to my wife[:D][:D][:D]please[:D]

Mine is a "fnh" variant with wood walnut grips. I have seen one other. I always assumed the grips were from a model 24 since they are similar.[img][/img]
