S&W 1006 FBI
Can anyone tell me what the indicator would be for a 1006 model that was issued to/by the FBI? I have a 1006, and have a chance to by another. This one is 'suppose" to be an FBI issue. Is there any kind of identifying marks, or were the 1006's randomly issued to agent?
This is a nice example gun, but I won't grab it unless it's an actual "issued" pistol.
Thanks,
Aaron

According to the S & W Book the FBI's 10mm's were the Model 1076. They had a frame mounted decocking lever, no magazine disconnect & serial number prefix with the 3 letter code of TEU.
Had a hands on with one a couple of weeks ago. The grip is quite uncomfortable because of it's length. For whatever reason my G 20's grip has a much better feel.0 -
Yes, Rufe is dead on the money. The FBI had the 1076's, not 1006. I actually sold 12 of them from the trade in's, that were like NIB. I was buying them for $279.95 each in 1992. I have shot a lot of 10MM handguns, and that shorter 4 1/4" barrel on the 1076 gave it more muzzle flip too. Actually the Glock 20 is the most comfy of all to shoot. Although, the 1911 platforms I shot done well too. The Glock also has a lower barrel center line, and that helps reduce muzzle flip dramatically.

Thanks for the info. This is not an FBI model, so I think I'll pass....
