Yes. The gun is a Belgian made "Trade Brand Name" shotgun sometimes referred to as JABC (Just Another Belgian Clunker). A Trade Brand Name" shotgun is one that was made by a major maker for and in this case imported by a wholesaler or retailer who chose the name to go on the gun. If the name is just UNION MACHINE CO, then the gun was made by a maker named Henri Pieper of Liege,Belgium. If the name is UNION MACHINE CO NEW YORK, then the gun was made by another maker named Simonis Janssen & Dumoulin also of Liege,Belgium.
In the first case, there is no seller listed and in the second case the importer.seller was a retailer named Schoverling Daley & Gales located in New York City. There are no serial number records of these guns but most were made and imported sometime between 1880 and 1900. And as such they were designed and made using the technology of the times and for the ammunition in use then which was black powder loaded. They will have damascus barrels with 2 1/2 inch chambers. The guns were not designed for modern high pressure smokeless powder, 3 inch or magnum shells or steel shot. My recommendation is DON"T ATTEMPT TO SHOOT THE GUN!!!. VALUE? Every one wants to know. Value will depend on the guns condition, the amount of original finish remaining on the metal and wood as well as the mechanical condition. A prime example that appears to have come out of the factory yesterday afternoon might bring as much as $150 while a rusty rotten incomplete piece of junk fit only for a fireplace poker might bring as much as $10 for parts salvage. Most sell on the various auction sites for $50 to $75.0 -
Hi,
Those do make good wall bangers. Agreeing with the previous poster and reiterate. Modern loads can split open the damascus wound barrels and present safty issues.
However those old sxs are pretty and are highly desirable to certain collectors.0 -

I have seen wall hangers bring as much as $300 if they are really pretty. Granted with the economy the way it is that might not be going on now.0
