Wichester model 12 serial prefix MT
I have a mint Winchester mod 12 with serial number MT20xx. It is a 20 guage, with vent rib 26" barrel with imp cyl, and it has the nicer wood with checkering on both the stock and slide handle. My question is what does the MT stand for and can the serial number provide any info on mfg dates?? thanks

I don't know what the MT stands for, but I think you have a Model 12 that was produced by either Browning or Miruko during the 1990s. Does it say "Made in Japan" on the left side if the barrel? 0 -
Actually, it says made in Japan and imported to ________ on the right hand side of the barrel. I thought all the guns mfg since 64 had a "y" prefix. Thank you for the input. 0 -
The guns with the "Y" prefix were produced from 1964 until, and I'm guessing here, 1972 or so when the Model 12 was discontinued the first time. When re-introduced on a limited basis, the Y prefix was dropped. Where was your gun imported to? I've never heard of that stamping. 0 -
Gun was imported to New Haven, CT. I just discovered 2 listings on Gunbroker that had a picture of the original box. Luckily, I noticed the box had a MTxxxx serial number. Every detail on the listings is identical to my gun. Item # 194282383 is in the current auctions. I still have no idea when gun was mfg. but I will contact seller to see if he knows. Thank you for your assistance.
