1972 Ruger 10 22

I have a 1972 ruger 10 22 I picked Sunday.It has no barrel band and a nice walnut stock with checkering.The barrel has kanen or hanen sportsman scribed under the sturm ruger co stamp on the barrel.My question is,what is the kanen or hanen sportsman scribe on the barrel.Any help would be helpful.Thank You!
