Star Super 9mm Largo
I recently bought a star model "super" in 9mm largo(Dont know why just wanted in that caliber.. got plenty of 9mm para). Then bought some of that santa barbara ammo from sarco and some mags but the extractor only pulls the empty halfway out and jams. EVERY SHOT! Have some of the Blazer GDHP 9mm largo that shoots great. Anybody have any similiar issues with this gun? or ammo?

For the last 6 months Sarco has put in fine print that their
remaining Star Modelo 9mm Largo pistols are in need of repair. They
list the problems ???, but they are sold only as repairables.
I don't have a source of parts, sorry.0 -
If the Blazer ammo works OK but the Spanish made stuff doesn't, seems like it's the ammo. If the Spanish stuff is under powered see if you can get a "lighter" recoil spring from Wolff, it might do the trick.
Try reloading and see what your results are. Starline carries standard boxer primed brass, only last time I bought it they didn't sell it under the 9mm Largo name for some reason? I'm haveing a senior moment but it seems to me they were selling it under the name of 9mm Super Comp, or something similar? You can reload it using the same shell holder as 9mm Luger but i can't remember what dies I used either 9 X 23 or the standard 9mm Luger dies?0 -
I've seen this problem before.
Because of a rough chamber, cases stick enough to bend the extractor out of engagement. Higher power loads stick cases more than lighter loads.
The fix is to polish the chamber and bend the extractor into better engagement with the case extractor groove.
Check the chamber for a faint bulge about 1/2'into the chamber that can be the result of firing 38 Super or 9x23 ammo in a soft barrel.0 -
That was my thought as well v35...because its jamming like its letting go of the spent casing.(As if its sticking like you said) hopefully you see this post. You sure its ok to try and bend the extractor? And how do I "polish" the chamber?..just with a brush or more invasive? Sure appreciate your advice 0 -
What ever you do don't shoot 9x23 or supers as they are a high presure cartrige and the 9mm Largo is low preaure. However one can down load 9x23 brass and use it in the largo gun. One must remember the 9x23 has some what less internal volume(this is due to the webbing in the 9x23 being .05 of an inch thick) so I would use less powder than a loading manual suggest for the largo round. 0 -
To clean up chamber- take a larger bore brush (for 9mm a 45 brush should work, add a short length of cleaning rod, chuck it in a drill. Wet brush with solvent, insert in chamber, spin with drill for 30-60 seconds, working in in and out slightly. Swab with dry patch. If that does not fix it, you may need some JB, altho some folks tell me they have used colgate toothpaste on a patch wrapped brush, drill, etc. 0
