Winchester 61 Routledge Bore
I have been looking for a Winchester 61 Routledge Bore for some time now. I have not been able to locate one and have not seen any on gunborker for sale.
Any idea how a guy could find one for sale? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

on the rare side...just keep looking...remington made more of the routledge and smooth bore guns 0 -
There were fewer than a hundred Routledge Bore Model 61s made, and my bet is that all of them are locked up in collections. I sincerely doubt that you will see one listed on GunBroker. Your best bet is to watch the well known auction houses, but it may take quite some time before one comes up for sale. 0 -
Several variations of the 61 smoothbore were made. According to C.H. KEY, only 77 of the original "Routledge" were made with the triangular loading port by Fred Routledge. VERY RARE
Winchester made their own version called the Winchester "Counter-Bore" which varied in the depth and width of the counter-bore.
Winchester also made a "non-counter-bore" smoothbore later in production.
There also exists a "smoothbore" carbine model 61 of which it is estimated that less than 10 exist. (Page 50 of CH Key book)
Throw in the matted receiver vs. grooved receiver, slide handle differences, etc., you can have many variations. All of them VERY COLLECTIBLE.
It has taken me years to assemble at least one of each including a 99% version of the carbine.0 -
do you have the serial #'s of the 77 routledge guns? thanks 0 -

Much more rare is the non-counterbore smoothbore 61. I've only seen one in person, and a cousin of mine owned it back about 1954.
Good luck with your search for the 61 Routledge bore.0 -

hi, thanks for the quick reply and great info on this model. what do you know about gun # 45066? its here in fgo,nd.thanks again 0 -
My list of known Model 61 Routledge bore .22 rifles is now up to 38 serial numbers. That is a great representation based on an alleged 77 total production. Constantly looking for new serial #'s to add to the list.
I own four of them and also have collected the Remington Model 121 Routledge bores which came in 4 variations.0 -
