Sorry to read you lost your house. In order to help we could use a little more info. So I'm thinking you have a model 340 bolt action that were made from 1950 to 1985.

What additional info do you need? There is no model number that I can see.

If the rifle is marked Savage Sporter, and is chambered in .30-30, it should be a Model 40 (or if stock is checkered, Model 45).

Search Savage Sporter on the auction side. There is one for sale for $100, # 193901235. This mag. is for the model 40 and 45 not the 340. They are available from time to time. Keep trying. [:D] You may also compare the pictures of the model 40 and the later model 340 to identify which one you have. I am not positive, but I think the 40 & 45 had a rear locking lug and the 340 had a single front lug on the bolt. Just search savage 340 for pictures of that model. Eddie

The Savage model 40 and 45 are marked "Super Sporter" not simply "Sporter" and do, in fact have a pair of rear locking lugs. And there is no model number on them. (I have a model 45 across my knees as I type this.) They are chambered for .250-3000, .30-30, .300 Savage, or .30/06. A couple more distinctive features are the up/down safety tab behind the bolt handle and a cocking knob that resembles the one on a 1903 Springfield.
