I know this is a forum for guns. But I'm looking to buy a good pair
of Binoculars. I dont want to pay alot. I have a friend who bought some Brunton Lite Tec 10x42 from Cabelas for $99.00. I looked at Brunton's web site and read about them. Their MSRP is $239.00. Can anybody tell me what they think about them or how good they are? Mt friend bought them for his wife. He has compared them to his Lica's that he paid $800.00 for. The only different he says is in low light he can tell a difference. Any help would be great.0 -
Lots of carry handle scope bases out there including extended types. Buy one, mount whatever scope you prefer. Millet, Konus and Leatherwood and Nikko make some very good "not too expensive" 1 to 4X scopes. Leuopold, Burris & Nikon is always a safe bet.

No need to get a new rifle...just get another upper.
Had to get that out of the way. Kinda a GB thing.
When I got my first Bushmaster it had an EoTec cowitnessed with iron sights. Couldnt figure out why so I sold it off and learned to love my iron sights. At one time I did mount a 4X tactical somethingoranother on the carry handle, tried to convince myself that it was awsome but it wasnt for me.
So I have no recomendations for a tactical optic.0 -
For the distances you've mentioned a 4X ACOG is pretty hard to beat and should fit your carry handle right out of the box. Also comes with a mount to fit a flat top if you buy that extra upper that dbain99 recommended. The ACOG is a little pricey but pretty hard to beat for your application. 0 -
The M16A2 with fixed cary handle and full length barrel is still being issued over here.
If they have optics usually they are aimpoints with this style carry handle mount:

Note the above is Aimpoint specific. If you go with an Eotec or other brand Dot sight. Best bet would be to go with their mount:

I had a cheaper version of the mount drobs shows.
With a no magnification red dot in front of the handle and very close to co-witness with the iron sights, it was very handy.
I also had a handle mount and a high add-on cheekpiece but that was an awkward setup.0 -
Well there is three practical ways to go about it without doing much to your rifle.
First and second is to get an ARMS carry handle mount, Or second get a cowitnessing forward mount.
Here is one for an aimpoint Ml2/Ml3

here is one for the EOtech

My advice is to go with either an Aimpoint ML3 or EOTECH XPS respectively. They do not require a cheek piece to work.
With the Arms mount in place any scope or red dot can be mounted, but the check weld and scope high above the bore can become an issue. My adice is to get a Mini red dot like the one from Valdada EDGE or the Aimpoint H-1, as they will minimize weight, and bulk and optic height.
The third option is an Trijicon ACOG,
like these

There is a foam stock glove that acts as a cheek piece to make the rifle more usable with a scope mounted onto the carry handle. DS Arms has them.0 -
here ya go ! best, but expensive. i have one and i believe it is the very BEST !!

Gooseneck mt and Aimpoint M2, M3 or M4 as finances allow.
It is what the Military uses on their fixed carry handle rifles.

get the original colt scope&mount 3x or the 4x power it is the best for the money at 200-- 400 dollars, and they keep going up in price
can't say that about any other scope out there.IMHO[;)]0
