Remington ammo box date ?

Just picked up a Remington 788 carbine in .243W cal and with it two boxes of Remington ammo. One full and one 1/2 full. The tab on the box has a clock like symbol with an "82" in the center and "1" thru "12" (The "2" is missing) like a clock around the 82. Can I assume this ammo was manufactured in 1982?
The rifle looks like it has been fired very little and I think it was purchased in 1981 or 1982

  Yes, that would be a safe assumption.

  I assume that my carbine has only fired 10 or 15 rounds.
