44-40 Win.
Will a 44-40 Win fire safely in a 44 Mag Revolver? I know the 44-40 is a tapered cartridge...but it seems that it would be just fire-formed??? Perhaps Not! Thanks...for answering a somewhat dumb question...

SHORT ANSWER.........NO, WILL NOT EVEN CHAMBER 0 -
Agree. 44-40 is about .471 above the rim, 44 mag is .457. The 44-40 is fatter, so no go. 0 -
Please be advised that when it comes to firearms, there realy is no 'dumb' questions. Always better to be careful than badly hurt or dead.

Be careful with old 44-40 ammo. Dominion Brand (Made in Canada) sold shells for rifles (powerful) and revolvers (not so powerful). The ONLY DIFFERENCE was rifle shells came in a box of 20 and revolver ones were in a box of 50! 0
