Shaving bullets

Friends Savage 22 pump is shaving bullets on loading, any ideas on why or solution? He's in another city and I've not looked at it yet.

  If this model has Tubular feed then Cartridge lifter most likely if Magazine fed then most likely Magazine feed lips.

  One more situation, if it has been excessively dry fired, the chamber mouth can be peened over. Not to hard to fix.

  Thanks to all for the input, hope to get my hands on it next weekend.
  Pretty sure it's tube fed.
