What year and value of Smith and Wesson 27-2
I have a S&W .357 Model 27-2 SN652xxx Nickel Finish and the barrel measures 3 3/4" from the end to the cylinder. Can anyone tell me the year and approx value? The cylinder has a little bit of rust on one side but other than that its perfect and it has a black grip.

Oh, and the serial number begin with N652 0 -
Your revolver dates to the late 70's.
Nickel plated handguns that have rusted, have serious cosmetic problems. Negative effect on value usually.
Need quality photos for proper identification and valuation though. This link has instructions for posting photos to forum.

Here is the link to the pics. Would it be worth it to replace the cylinder? And what would the value be with and without a new cylinder?0 -
That's more than a little rust - too bad because it's otherwise in great shape.
You may want to contact S & W - I think they still do nickel, although they may outsource it. I think your gun falls into the area of damage as opposed to honest wear, the 4" 27 is not so rare that it's a sin to refinish.0 -

What would be a round about value as is and if I were to refinish it? I'm just trying to figure out how much it's worth so I don't short sell myself. Thanks for the feedback. 0 -
I'll guess about $350.00 as is, maybe $550.00 refinished? Instead of refinishing the whole thing maybe find a replacement cylinder instead. You might even be able to save the internals of the existing cylinder. 0 -
Ok. Thank you. That's good to know. The S&W website lists the cylinder at 130 bucks in nickel. I think it would be worth it to do that. All of the internal parts are in great shape. I don't know what happen, but I had it under my bed and when I went to get it, it was stuck to the carpet. I guess the carpet got wet at some point. It didn't hurt anything except the cylinder. I wasn't happy because it was perfect before that happen. Thanks for the input guys. 0
