Mossberg Rifle

I am looking at a Mossberg 270 Model 1500 for my husband. I was told it is about 15 yrs old. Is it possible to get more information on this rifle from using a serial number? What would this rifle be worth?

  My 2004 Blue Book of Gun Values says the 1500 was imported 1986 - 87 only. 1985 Mossburg bought the remaining parts inventory and import rights that Smith & Wesson imported from Howa of Japan. 100%/$285 95/225 80/180 70/165 add $25 if it has iron sights. Last manuf sugested retail $335
