I have a Speedmaster 241 that shoots 22LR. It was my grandfathers. It's a nice little rifle, but it jams a lot I doubt I can shoot three bullets without it jamming. Bullets are fed into the stock but they cannot make the final curve into the chamber. They miss the hole and get hung up.
I have cleaned it several times and oiled it, but I stil cannot get the bullets to make the final transition into the hole.
BTW, I have heard the jokes about semi-auto are really auto-jam, but I really wish I could get this thing to fire repeatedly. It's a nice little rifle and in great condition.
Can anyone help me?0 -
Here is a sight that may be able to help you get her together correctly:

Same problem. I'm told my ammo isn't hot enough to recock the firing pin. It loads and ejects just fine. I found some CCI ammo (this Model 241 is .22 short only) and it worked better but still only recocked the firing pin about 70% of the time. I tried the site listed but no help. This rifle is new to me. I fired 10 rounds after buying it and all went well but it was VERY dirty and it cleaned it and took the bolt apart. Now it's a single shot. I have to eject a live round manually to recock the firing pin. Reassembly goofed up or what??? 0 -
My rifle is a LR only model. When I disassemblied it for cleaning
I had a problem of the firing pin not being recocked. After closer inspection I noticed my gun had a little play in the barrel bushing.
I ordered one from e-gunparts.com and installed it in my gun. No more problems.0 -
My rifle is at the gunsmith's shop and I've passed along your comment. It would be great if that fixed the problem. 0 -
As for the feeding problem, don't know if this could be related, but the first time I took mine apart I turned the locking nut on barrel too far one way or the other. It went back together o.k. but wouldn't feed properly. Was ready to send it back to Browning when I somehow discovered the problem.
It' early, and I haven't had my coffee yet. Feeling lazy. The above is from an earlier post on the 241, of which there are several. As I recall my feeding problem involved a visible gap between the bolt face in forward battery and the face of the chamber. Seems that this might affect firing pin travel and ignition as well. It's tricky in that the locking nut will allow tight lock up of barrel to receiver even though the barrel is too far forward to allow proper chambering and barrel/bolt mating.
Let us know what the answer turns out to be.0 -
Thanks for the manual on the 241. I pick it up tomorrow, again. My gunsmith said to bring some hi velocity 22 shorts. I'm a bit concerned about that as the cci CB 22 shorts cycled the action and recocked the firing pin 7 of 10 times and previous hi-velocity didn't. I'll let you know how it's doing after I get it back, probably @ the email you gave me. 0
