1973, according to the Standard Catalogue of S&W, by the way, welcome to the forums!
The model 19 is one of my favorite Smith revolvers!

The "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson" notes that the "5K" prefix dates to 1974. Problem is that the serial number range given for the "5K" prefix is 73963 to 99999. I don't understand where the serial number range of your revolver fits in, a far as the data given in the book is concerned? If your revolver had a 6K prefix the S.N. range would jive?

It isn't only Model 19's covered by the "5K" prefix but various other "K" frame revolvers, including Models 14,15,16,17,18,48,53,66,67 & 68.

Its a great gun, though discontinued a few years back by Smith and Wesson.

For decades, the model 19 was THE standard US police revolver, and it still makes a great "service" or defense gun, known for excellent balance and super-smooth action.

I believe the 19-3, in particular, was the last model variant to have both the pinned barrel and the counterbored (recessed) cylinder. Neither one of those features really adds anything to its function or shootability, though they do add to its collectability and mystique.

Anyway, you really can't go wrong with one of these:
