winchester 52B with mods good or bad?
Hello,
Currently i am in the process of accepting or sending back a modified 52b. Would you advise me whether/when a barrel has been cut short, around 6" removed really gives a positive or negative on a gun which has had other mods??
This one is item 189951862 which ended recently. I wanted it for my left handed daughter to use. It balances well,is light and has a changed trigger which is nice. You can see it is customized a lot.
Anyone comment on the price I paid?
Since the listing did not mention the barrel, i was put off by it and am considering sending it back. I think the scope is a Japanese made tasco, value? Any guidance about this transaction would be appreciated. To me i saw a long unfamiliar scope and a customized stock, leaving the fact that since my 52d bull has a non blued face, the barrell as shown sort of tricked me at the time. I have read a bit and find that some shooters do this to a barrel and one can use a bloop tube for sight aid.
For all i know is, since the gun has been worked on a lot, it may have as well had a ringing job done too, hence the barrel length. It measures from the joint out to the face at just under 21in. The top of the receiver looks sand blasted, so i don't know if this is one of the old bull barrel guns. I haven't got the face diameter because the gun is still with my ffl until i make a decision. The seller will not refund shipping but will offer a refund if i return it. What is the general opinion about this gun?
thanks for the help. jim

I think postings about auctions get poofed since the discussion should occur between the buyer and seller. Regarding a Winchester 52 in general, any modification such as a lopped off and not crowned barrel will greatly lower the value as will modifying the stock or refinishing. On the other hand, if the gun is being bought as a shooter I suppose what matters is how the thing works.
I'd also add that Numrich Arms has lots of parts which would allow for the replacement of the originals having been modified. Id a Winchester 52 was bought anywhere for 1/2 price and barrel, stock found for a good price it would be quite the deal.
As an aside, my choice on an older rifle like the 52 would be iron sights and not a $25.00 scope. Redfield Olympic peep rear, globe front - excellent set up especially for young, sharp eyes. Or old sharp eyes like mine too.0 -
well the discription does say "28 barrel", the "crown" is standard win. (straight cut off). the price is for a 'shooter' not a 'collector'. If you (or your daughter)like it, it is a reasonable price. 0 -
"long unfamiliar scope"-It sounds like this Tasco might be a 705. If so, it is a good quality scope, not a Unertl, but still should be worth $300-400 in good condition. 0 -
Umm nope though that is a nice scope this tasco is the 6-24x 44mm with screw in caps and lens shade in place. One ended on auction for $100.00 and its 6-32x 44mm brother for $185.00
Wouldn't mind owning that 705.0
